Derby (well-defined "dar-bee") is a conurbation in the East Midlands of England. It lies on the banks of the River Derwent together with is surrounded by the county of Derbyshire. Its population synchronous 2000 was 234,905.

Status

Traditionally, Derby is the county community of Derbyshire, although Derbyshire's administrative nucleus has with it recent epoch been Matlock. On 1 April 1997 Derby City Council became again an unitary right, (a importance it had held, as a particular Borough, up to 1974), with the rest of Derbyshire administered from Matlock. The effort party currently control the authority, near a narrowing majority next to the restricted council.
